The Air Show

Last Saturday we went to our very first air show. The day was gorgeous - bright, sunny, cool and windy. Plus, jets and prop planes .... come on - We thought the kids would LOVE it! However, being the WONDERFUL parents we are, we forgot about how incredibly loud the jets are and how incredibly sensitive to loud noises our son is! OOPS!

As soon as we got there, we stopped and bought ear plugs - you know the cheap foam kind that you jam into your ear for $3. Those don't work very well apparently. And again, being the wonderful parents we are, we chose NOT to buy to the $15 a pair kind that completely cover your ears like ear muffs like you see the airport guys wearing that might have actually worked. "The kids will be fine, Tyler will be fine ....", so we thought. So we moved on closer to the action, and poor Tyler was covering his ears, crying and just begging for us to take him home. Well.... we drove over an hour to get there then had to take the shuttle bus which took another 45 minutes ... we weren't about to leave the moment we got there!!! So we tried the art of distraction. It kinda went like this ~ "Wow, Tyler ... did you see that? That was so cool, wasn't it? Tyler, wasn't it so cool? Stop crying Tyler .... watch, it is so cool .... Tyler please stop crying....." Distraction wasn't working out to well for us!!

Luckily there were breaks in the demonstrations, enough time for Tyler to relax, and we got to take him around to see the parked planes they had - you know, the non-moving, non-loud planes!!!!!
Tyler even got to sit in one or two.

And in an engine!

But I guess it was an air show so the jets started up again and so did the crying. So we caved and decided it best to leave since the Thunder birds were starting and we figured if one jet made Tyler cry, what would 5 jets flying together do!! Unfortunately this was the part Mason really wanted to see so HE was now crying. OK, so not really crying but definitely pouting! So we leave, have to what in line for about an hour to get back on the shuttle bus with hungry kids, hungry pregnant mommy and pouting dad. I know the day probably does not sound like much fun, but it really was a blast!

Ready for the best part ... On the ride home, Mr. Tyler decided to share his thoughts of the day .... ready for this? "Mom, Dad, that was the BEST day of my WHOLE life!" Man, if that was his best day, we must really torture the poor kid on a normal basis! :)

Sounds like a day of misery to me, but I am so glad Tyler loved it apparently. Too funny...really.
